Book Signing Fun and Lessons Learned

I was part of a group book signing at Barnes & Noble in Loveland CO, Nov 30th.  My first ever. I had a blast and even sold books.

I learned a couple of interesting lessons and I was totally broken-in by being asked the dreaded question; "Can you tell me where the bathroom is?"

Lesson #1.  Romance, oddly, doesn't appeal to everyone:)  And while my books have romance in them, I turned off a couple of people by stating they were "romances." Now I'm going for Adventure with Romantic Elements, or A Christmas Story with Romantic Elements, hoping that by saying that, it will continue the conversation.

Lesson #2.  I knew this, but got to put it in action.  Don't sit behind your table all the time.  Stand and greet people. Some will drop their gaze to avoid a conversation, but saying hi is better than not saying anything. Engage, you never know where it will take you.

Pictures from the signing.

Just about to get in the groove.  Really the only time I sat.

My set-up. Notice the candy :) and the sign-up book.
Looks serious.  Richard Lawrence and me.

  2. I love your post, LA. I got to direct people to the restroom at my first signing, too, and I felt so proud. It's a right a passage! :)

Great pix, and I'm so happy your had a fun and productive signing!

  3. I had a wonderful time sitting beside you at the booksigning and watching you work the crowd! You're a born promoter, Leslie. I'm taking notes : )

Loved the pics and can't wait to do it all again!!

  4. Kaye, it was fun. At first it was slow, but once B&N started on the mic, it picked up. I'd do this again for sure. Plus it was a kick off to my favorite holiday,

  5. Nancy,
Yep, the right of passage, directing people to the RR. I wonder if all the big names (besides you :) ) had to do this?

It was cool, I laughed after they were out of earshot.

  6. Audra,
Heck I learned it from you at your first signing. I sat behind the table as you worked the crowd. It was a blast then and now.

    Yes, let's do it again.
    Next year? Before then?
    Valentine's Day?
