Five Secrets From Author Keta Diablo

Author Keta Diablo lives in the Midwest part of the United States on six acres of gorgeous woodland. When she isn't writing or gardening she loves to commune with nature.

A pair of barn owls returns to the property every year to birth their young and show them off in the high branches of the oak trees.

There is nothing more adorable than these white fluffy babies with heart-shaped faces. A lifelong animal lover, Keta devotes her time and support to the local animal shelter. Emma LaPounce, a rescued feline, has been her furry companion for the last ten years.

Hi, Keta please tell us Five Secrets we may not know about Season, Unforgettable or you, but will after today!

1)  I considered the main genre of this book to be a romance, or intended it to be. Several readers emailed me and said, "Keta, this is most definitely a thriller!"

2) Season, Unforgettable was one of those books that basically wrote itself. I had an idea of the basic plot, but then the book took a life of its own.

3) The hero and heroine are complete opposites, and yet, due to the hero's patience, they turned out to be a great couple.

4) I learned a lot about the Romani (gypsy) people and their culture. It's always a fun adventure and interesting to learn something new, especially when it's about real-life people.

5) The ending surprised even me. The muse took over and very creatively penned the perfect ending.

Blurb:
Would you forsake your mother to save the woman you loved?

Season Scrimshaw isn't selling the land her parents left her when they died, not even to the gorgeous Rann Brogan who saved her life in the forest. Especially not after she finds out he was in the woods surveying her property.

Rann's mother, Charlotte, owns a large land development company. She wants Season’s property to put up a strip of luxurious, lakefront condos and Charlotte always gets what she wants. She sends Rann on a mission to seal the deal. To say Rann and his mother have had a normal mother/son relationship would be a stretch…a big stretch, but he’s always done her bidding.

This time it’s different. Rann hasn’t been able to get the beautiful Season out of his mind. While on his mission to secure the property, he realizes how much Season loves the land, and…he realizes somewhere along the line, Season has stolen his heart.

He soon discovers his mother will go to any length to get what she wants…including murder. Lives spiral out of control, secrets and lies take center stage. Rann is forced to choose between his mother and the woman he loves.

And he’s forced to become as dangerous and as lethal as Charlotte.

Love a lot of thriller with your romance? Love a lot romance with your thriller? How about suspense, betrayal, and murder? If so, then Season, Unforgettable is the book for you.

5 Secrets From Author Nancy Lynn Jarvis

Don't you love learning secrets?  I do. Come learn 5 from Nancy Lynn Jarvis.

I started writing as a game because I was bored and finished my first book, The Death Contingency, because a writer friend told me I couldn’t just decide to write a book. I never intended to do anything with it, but when I got a call from my friend saying she was terminally ill and regretted never having finished a book and seen her name in print, I threw together a publishing company and published the book with a dedication to Charlotte Bridges so she could see her name in print before she died. Here’s the dedication.

To Charlotte Snowden Bridges,
a much better writer than I will ever be, who was always going to publish when her works were perfect. She ran out of time on September 1st, 2008.
Brain cancer took her life.
Worry less about being perfect than the consequences of putting off dreams.

Hi, Nancy. please tell us Five Secrets we may not know about The Glass House or you, but will after today!

1)   Pat Pirard is based on a friend of mine who was the Santa Cruz Law Librarian for many years and is now a PI. My first series, the Regan McHenry Real Estate Mysteries series rings true because I was a Realtor for more than twenty years, but I know nothing about how a private investigator works. The real Pat is consulting on the planned PIP Inc. series to keep me accurate.

2)   Pat’s pets, Dot the Dalmatian, and ginger cat Lord Peter Wimsey were my pets. My Dalmatian was a fun dog who had a talent for opening refrigerator doors and once knocked herself out cold while trying to make off with the Thanksgiving turkey. I’ll be using some of her exploits in the books.

3)   I didn’t intend for Pat’s love interest to be the man she wound up with, but as the character’s developed, Pat clearly didn’t like her intended.

4)   Pat’s sidekick, Syda, was hard for me to develop, but now she’s become my favorite character to write. Normally when I start writing, I have a real person in mind for each character. As I write, characters’ names get changed and they diverge from their original inspiration, but with Syda, all I had was her name so she took some time to become real to me.

5)   The murder victim is a real glass artist of some renown who suggested how to kill him and said he would love to die at my hands.

Blurb :
At thirty-four, Santa Cruz County Law Librarian Pat Pirard is living her perfect life. She has a job she loves, she’s just purchased her dream car, and she is almost over being dumped by her long term boyfriend. But her thirty-fifth birthday marks the end of life as she knows it, and Pat has to reinvent herself. As a birthday present, Pat’s best friend enrolls her in a glass flower making class. She learns a lot in the class, but she never expects her final lesson will be all about murder.

Five Secrets Shared by Author Sara Beth Williams

Five Secrets From Sara Beth Wiliams
If you could describe me with one word, it would be CREATIVE. I love to be creative. I love to paint, draw, sing, build things, design/organize interior rooms and outdoor spaces. I’m not especially great at any of those, but I have always been especially great with words. So, I use words to create.
Hi, Sara Beth, please tell us Five Secrets we may not know about A Worthy Heart or you, but will after today!
1)  A Worthy Heart was not easy to write. Whereas my first book flowed like water from my fingers, this one challenged me on all levels. It took patience, practice, determination and the willingness to be flexible. I had to use every single piece of writing knowledge I’d picked up while working on my first novel and I am hoping it pays off.
2) People who know me in real life know that I am an extrovert. That’s not all that surprising. What is surprising is my need for downtime by myself. Or what some people refer to as ambivert. The mesh of introvert and extrovert characteristics. I still love to be around people, but I also love being alone a lot more than I ever did when I was a kid.

3) A Worthy Heart features Serena Hayes, a biracial female lead character with an African American father and a Caucasian mother. That was not done on purpose to fulfill some call or quota for more diverse books. Serena’s background was developed purely based on my own experiences. My husband and his sister are both biracial, and yes, they’re both incredibly tan. (you’ll have to read the book to get that reference) It’s not fair really how well they tan. If only…

4) While I show Serena journeying out of an abusive relationship, I have never experienced what she goes through. However, I know friends, and family members, who have experienced abuse in relationships to varying degrees. The more entrenched I became in writing, and further developing Serena’s back story, the more I began to realize how many people close to me have suffered. I think the internet gets bogged down with horror stories, or depressing depictions of abuse, and yes they’re out there, but this book is for all of your success stories!
5) Let’s do something else about me… I mentioned I love to create. Right out of high school, I discovered an obscure job posting – someone was hiring and offering to train balloon twisters. So, I learned how to balloon twist, and I absolutely love it. I entertained in restaurants for a couple of years, then after I went to college, and married, I ran my own business and entertained at birthday parties for another couple of years. It was a blast, and if I ever have a larger space, more time, and more money to put into running my own business, I’d pick it up again.
Blurb:
Joel Bennett has always known Serena Hayes as his sister’s gregarious best friend. In the three years since Lacey began college, Serena became a regular houseguest, but lately, she’s absent more than not. When Joel discovers she’s in an abusive relationship, protectiveness from within roars to life.

With only a part-time job to support her and nowhere to go, Serena fears leaving her current relationship would jeopardize her chances of graduating college. After a brutal attack leaves her no choice, she courageously moves out.
On her journey toward regaining confidence, self-worth, and independence, Joel falls in beside her, encouraging her. The way he emulates Godly love and compassion draws her close—not just to him, but to the God who can satisfy her longing for love better than any man,

Attraction sizzles between them, but events from their pasts cast shadows of doubt.
When the unthinkable happens, can Serena open her heart to a second chance at love, or is she destined to be alone?

Five Secrets Revealed by Author Kayelle Allen

Science Fiction author Kayelle Allen met her husband while they were both on active duty in the Navy. She told her big sister she wasn't serious about him. He was serious about her, though, and he won her heart. They've been married 45 years.

Hi, Kayelle, please tell us Five Secrets we may not know about you, but will after today!

1)  I was born in Idaho but lived there only six months. My family moved a lot when I was growing up, so I was never in one place very long. In one year, I went to five different schools. Since moving to Georgia, I've stayed in one place for about 30 years and I love the feeling of permanence.

2)  I've flown over the Grand Canyon, but have never actually been to it. What I saw from the air was majestic and beautiful. Even getting a mere glimpse was awe inspiring. I want to see it in person one day.

3)  As a kid, I was fascinated by astronomy. My parents bought me a small telescope and I used it every chance I got. We lived in Nevada when I was a young teen, where the sky is cloudless and clear at night. I fell in love with the various planets and stars. Today, I write Science Fiction and Fantasy. For me, it's a dream come true to research a topic I've loved since childhood.

4)  I take things literally and I mean that "literally." I think that's why I like puns. It's a different way to look at a word. But that tendency toward seeing things literally can be a drawback. For example, I've been binge-watching Suits, and it took me until season 4 to realize the name Suits referred to lawsuits and not clothing. After all, what's the common term for a guy who works in an office? We say "he's a suit" and this show is all about that kind of guy. It was a lightbulb moment when that hit me. I felt like a dork, but what can you do?

5)  I love art and have always had art in my home. Part of that is because my mother was an artist. She loved to draw in charcoal, pencil, and pastels. She also used watercolors and oil paints. My husband is artistic too, and my oldest son is a graphic designer.

Jamin created a major part of the art on my website and collaborated with me on an illustrated book. These days, I've been working with an artist named Nano-Core, a Sci Fi and Fantasy artist who is known as a digital weaponsmith. He designed an entire combat uniform and weapons for my character Pietas, from my Bringer of Chaos series. The cosplayer Nik Nitsvetov is bringing those designs to life and will perform as Pietas later this summer, wearing those designs and carrying those weapons.

Blurb:
Bringer of Chaos: Origin of Pietas

Exiled to a barren world with only a human named Six for company, the immortal Pietas demands the mortal serve him. When Six refuses and insists they are equals, Pietas is outraged. How dare a mortal refuse anything he requests?

When he needs Six's support to find and join his people, Pietas must learn to humble himself and ask for help--politely-- and even more outrageous--request forgiveness. From a human.

For without aid, the immortal king might spend eternity alone, never finding the people he has already died over a thousand times to save.

Five Secrets Shared By Author Kate McKeever

From Kate McKeever

Thanks, L.A, for hosting me today.

One of the options for L.A. Sartor’s blog is to let readers into five secrets of your book. Here are mine for my books in the Elle James’ Brotherhood Protectors’ World.

Secret One- I LOVE military heroes, but not the typical kind. The military heroes for me are the guys that walk down the street and get a turn around from me and my friends, but not from his physique, though, in my books they are always buff, but his assurance. He walks with confidence, not bravado. He doesn’t need to be a tough guy all the time to show he’s strong, but can cry too. My hero in Sinner’s Redemption, Cole, is that kind of man. Oh, and my heroes typically are men that joined the military to get away from something.

Secret Two- My heroes all are wounded warriors. All right, it’s not necessarily a secret in my upcoming book, Saint’s Fall. Saint has an amputation from an injury on a mission. But my heroes in Sinner’s Redemption and Saving Sidewinder are also wounded. For every man who has to take a life, there is a wound inside that he has to deal with. And my heroes never take their histories as warriors as something easy.

Secret Three- My heroines are also strong. While the heroines may be wounded or scared, they are also willing to take risks for the ones they love, whether it’s a child, a wounded man or the man she loves.

Secret Four- All of my books have secondary characters who will have stories of their own. For instance, Cole was a secondary character in my first book, Saving Sidewinder. He was the hero for my second Brotherhood book, Sinner’s Redemption. And Saint, the hero of my upcoming book, was introduced in Sinner’s book. So, look for more stories to come!

Secret Five- I have a young man, Kid, whose story is going to be threaded throughout all of my books. While I don’t write young adult, Kid is a young man on the rehab ranch that is just hitting twenty years of age. While he may not have a book, he’ll still have a happily ever after!

I hope you’ve been entertained by and maybe even intrigued by my Five Secrets. I’ve totally loved writing the books in the Brotherhood Protectors Series and look forward to writing more. Look for Saint’s Fall in June. Here are links to my other Brotherhood Protector Books:

Five Secrets Shared By Author Linda O'Connor

Please welcome back Linda O'Connor.
Take it away, Linda.

Thanks for having me as a return guest, L.A.

I used to fuel my creativity by heading over to Homesense (a lot) and wander around the store soaking up all the colour and pattern. When I caught myself subtly rearranging the displays, I thought, okay, I need a change. It was time to find another creative outlet. I’m a family physician, and after years of working in an Urgent Care Clinic, it became obvious that patients are like sponges when it comes to health information – the more they learn, understand, and absorb, the happier they are and the better the outcome.

Surely medical education could be more interesting than the boring posters in the waiting room! I started writing fast-paced, sexy romantic comedies, weaving the best parts of medicine into the story. I decided to target a female audience because women are more likely to have regular visits and most often, are the driving force behind men and children visiting a doctor, too.

Turns out, writing romance novels is really fun (and even though I’m sure the display designers at Homesense miss my input, just think of all the money I’ve saved!)

Hi, Linda, please tell us Five Secrets we may not know about the In the Game Hockey Romance series or you, but will after today!

1) Sarah Jain, the heroine from Between the Pipes prefers knowing the ending of a movie before it starts. I have to admit I’m the same, and I peek at the ending of really suspenseful novels, too. Bring on those spoiler alerts.

2) Sarah’s best friend, Danni Angelo, is the heroine in Behind the Bench. She’s fanatic about the hockey players not sharing their water bottles. I’m with her on that and it’s not just drinks I won’t share. In our household, we each have our own toothbrush holder and tube of toothpaste. If a guest uses our toothpaste, I’ll send it home with them or throw it out and start a fresh one. Wasteful maybe, but staying healthy is the name of the game.

3) The stars of Beyond the Face-Off, Kelly Danali and Jake Ross, wanted to move into together after only three chapters. Kelly was offering Jake a safe haven from all the media attention he was garnering. It gave new meaning to a fast-paced story! I had to rein them in and re-write a few chapters.

4) Jordyn Kendra, of Before the Whistle fame, has a “spirited” aunt. She’s a guardian angel who gives Kelly a gentle nudge with her love life. I believe that our loved ones are always watching and guiding us – and I’ll always accept a helping hand.

5) Behind the Bench is my favourite book of the series. But shhhh…don’t tell the other books. I don’t want to hurt their feelings. :D

Blurb for Behind the Bench:
Dr. Danni Angelo is the team physician for the Clarington Quakes hockey team. She’s worked hard to earn the players’ respect, but the new coach, Trey Mason, is stirring things up, and Danni’s worried her job may be in jeopardy.

Trey finds Danni…distracting. Beauty, brains, and sexy moves on the ice have him uncomfortably attracted. He’s the new guy on the block. He has a reputation to build and a standard to set. The last thing he needs is a complication.

When the team spirals out of control and Danni and Trey get caught up in a drug scandal, things heat up on and off the ice. It’s a whole new game plan…Behind the Bench.

Five Secrets From Amanda Cabot

Welcome back Amanda Cabot with a brand new novel A Tender Hope and more secrets to share. Take it away, Amanda.

From the time I was seven, I dreamt of being a writer.  You know how dreams are – not all of them come true, but that one did.  At current count I have more than thirty-five novels, eight novellas, four technical books, and dozens of technical articles that I describe as cures for insomnia to my credit.

For more years than I’m going to admit I was a director of Information Technology for a major multinational corporation, a job that included collecting a gazillion – well, maybe a few less than that – frequent flyer miles, spending countless nights in hotels, and eating so many restaurant meals that fine dining quickly lost its appeal.  Now I’m a fulltime writer of Christian romances, living happily ever after with my husband in Wyoming.

Amanda, please tell us Five Secrets we may not know about A Tender Hope or you, but will after today!

1)  My first published book, a short contemporary romance for the secular market was set in the Loire region of France.  My first historical, also for the secular market, was a medieval set in France.  My first book for the CBA market (the one that introduced readers to Thea, who’s the heroine of A Tender Hope) featured characters who’d emigrated from the Alsace region of France, and A Tender Hope itself has a major character who’s spent most of her life in France.  Does anyone see a pattern here?

2)  Having read #1, you probably won’t be surprised to learn that I majored in French and was fortunate enough to have studied in France.

3)  I also had the opportunity to live in Germany and was in Berlin one weekend when shots were fired over the Wall, but that’s another story.

4)  Now, let’s talk about the book.  The original title was Shrouded Hopes. As had happened with all the titles in this series, the titling committee chose more upbeat titles than my original ones, which is why it’s now called A Tender Hope.

5)   When I first envisioned this book, the hero was going to be Warner, the apothecary.  But since apothecaries are difficult to market as heroes, the editorial committee suggested I find another hero.  Enter Texas Ranger Jackson Guthrie.

A Tender Hope Cover, Book by Amanda Cabot
Blurb :
As far as Thea Michener is concerned, it’s time for a change. With her husband murdered and her much-anticipated baby stillborn, there is nothing left for her in Ladreville. Having accepted a position as Cimarron Creek’s midwife, she has no intention of remarrying. So when a handsome Texas Ranger appears on her doorstep with an abandoned baby, Thea isn’t sure her heart can take it.

Ranger Jackson Guthrie isn’t concerned only with the baby’s welfare. He’s been looking for Thea, convinced that her late husband was part of the gang that killed his brother. But it soon becomes clear that the situation is far more complicated than he anticipated—and he’ll need Thea’s help if he’s ever to find the justice he seeks.

Five Secrets Revealed By Author Alanna Lucas

It's a pleasure to have as a return guest, Alanna Lucas.
Wait until you read her revealed secrets.
And wait until you read the blurb for her latest book!!
Hello!
Thank you for joining me today and thanks, L.A. for hosting me again.

I’m Alanna Lucas. I write mostly Regency-set historical romance—every once in a while, a western gets lassoed into the oeuvre.

Most days I can be found researching for my next story, desperately trying to get through my email inbox (I don’t like the pile up), attempting to coordinate my kids schedules, and sneaking off to read. Although if you ask my husband, he would add plotting my next travel destination—usually Holland to see my family—to the list. And just for the record, you can never have too many shoes, handbags, or books.

Hi, Alanna, please tell us Five Secrets we may not know about When the Marquess Returns or you, but will after today!

1)  I was bitten by a spider when I was five and had to go the emergency room. Sadly, I did not transform into Spidergirl and have no superpowers, or do I?  ;-)

2) I have a master’s degree in Art History. I even studied art history in Paris, France for a semester *mumbles into her hand* years ago.

3) One of the twins in When a Marquess Returns kept trying to steal the show-and not stay out of my head- so I killed him off, but promised that if he behaved and let me write the story, I would bring him back to life.

4) I don’t listen to music while I write, but it is a must when I develop the story. The playlist for When the Marquess Returns included Imagine Dragons, Bishop Briggs, Black Veil Brides, and Beethoven (who’s always on the list!).

5) The first book I read—and continues to be one of my favorites—is Go, dog. Go! Perhaps my love for driving first developed with that book ;-)

Blurb :
A Marquess in Waiting and the Cursed Heiress…
The ton is abuzz and mamas are lining up their daughters; identical twins Maximus and Lucius St. Albans are making their entry into society. But they’re not just eligible―they’re the missing grandsons of the Duke of Warrington, stolen as infants.

However, Maximus doesn’t relish the battle with his cocky, reprobate brother to be the next Marquess.  And he has no time for the simpering misses now vying for his attention. Only Miss Sabina Teverton has his interest.

She was resigned to life as a spinster but from the moment Sabina meets Lord Maximus, her heart is torn. She dreams of a match with him―but how can that be when she’s been branded as cursed…and she knows secrets of that night long ago when Maximus and his twin were snatched from their cradles?
